Two the Sea

Updated: Apr 27

We celebrated our little one’s second birthday this weekend. My mom and I made her a strawberry mermaid birthday cake with cream cheese frosting and sand dollar sugar cookies. I think our little mermaid was very pleased with the outcome! :)

I linked all the decor we used to celebrate our munchkin. Along with some gifts that were a hit for my now two year old little girl ! I also wrote down our steps for the cookies and cake. Neither was made from complete scratch since I was not in my own kitchen for the party and it’s a bit of a travel to visit the entire family from where we live. With a newborn, two year old, and a three hour drive… box cake and premade dough was where our hearts took us. But all in all I think it turned out pretty cute and everyone loved the taste ;)

P.S. it’s been three days and she still has not taken the bunny slippers off.. mom win!

Enjoy!

Cake decor:

(Meri Meri has a lot of cute sea themed decor)

Gifts:

(We got this on a beach trip and updated it with the one linked above)

Sugar cookies

We simply bought a sugar cookie dough roll to bake. Once baked we spread the cream cheese icing and sprinkled half the cookies with a cinnamon sugar mixture. The hardest part of this simple concoction was finding perfect almond slices in the bag we bought :)

Birthday cake

Strawberry box cake

(Sift cake mix to make it fluffier ;) )

We separated the cake mix into two round cake pans. Then iced the bottom cake, spread about a cup of cut up strawberries on top. Placed the second round cake on top and iced the two layers together. We used vanilla wafers as the sand and sprinkled around the bottom of the cake and on top. I piped some swirls along the edges of the cake and placed the seashells and other decor as seen & viola!
